The Thursday night game between Panthers and Storm was of a higher entertainment value than the Rabbits and Roosters. This is mainly due to the fact that the Rabbits put the Roosters off with a great start and then forcing them to make some uncharacteristic mistakes, The Panthers game was more even and thus resulted in both teams playing some entertaining but controlled football.

All four sides have set the standards for past few years and it will be interesting how they go with injuries as they are starting to add up for the Roosters and to a lesser extent the Panthers.

Canberra, Parra and Newcastle seem to have the depth to challenge the big 4 if things go their way. The dragons, sharks, titans and warriors at this early stage are the only ones capable to making top 8 on top of the ones I have named.

Broncos, Dogs, Cowboys, Manly and Tigers seem to be jockeying for positions at the bottom although with a couple of them, you can see big improvements if they remain injury free.

I see Brisbane are  paying 1.65 on NSWTAB.

When was the last time a team coming off 13 straight losses was so short in the betting?

The injury lists keep growing.

The halves alone have taken a battering. Keary is out for the season. Hunt has broken leg while Morgan is indefinite. Tevita Harris out for awhile. Cleary is back next week.

The faster the game gets, the more fatigue will play a part in injuries with players putting heads, bodies and legs in wrong places due to reaction times.

Players are always scrambling to get back in line and in the old days, penalties and scrums gave some respite to many forwards. Now you see props changing body shape too and that is within 12 months of the rule changes.

The concussion protocols do help a lot and it will mean more chance of extra reserves in the future to avoid situations like yesterday with Raiders and Sharks. Clubs who do the right thing with concussion should not be penalised.

..... and you know those same clubs will abuse those rules if the 18th or 19th man is brought in.

What's the difference to 4 guys going down with knees, ankles etc and leaving a team short?

I agree partially but it is now getting to a level where you need more than 4 reserves. The game is too fast and you will see more and more teams learn how to slow down the play.

I would settle for a team to exchange a player for rest of the game at the 20 minute mark for rest of the game. This will appease everyone and reduce exploitation as you will get 20 minute players which wonít keep them happy too. This is similar to the Big Bash ideas of substitution.

The concussion protocol is working well for some teams but the ridiculous part is when the game is stopped for a player to be assessed. If that happens, the player should get 20-25 mins break as the team did not pull him out straightaway like the good teams do when they see a player staggering or get hit on the head.

Also I donít think HIA counts as an interchange but I could be wrong.

Does anyone know what questions are asked during the HIA process?

Questions like
What's your mother's maiden name? What ground are we playing at?

or

Explain Einstein's theory of relativity.

A few years old but parts of it still is current.

Anyone wanting to guess when the bottom 3 clubs in Manly, Dogs and Cowboys have a win each on the board rather than who breaks their duck first?

I think the Cowboys or the Dogs will not have a win on the board by round 8.

Next 5 games:

Manly: Panthers (H), Warriors(A), Titans(H), Wests ((A) and Panthers (A)

Dogs;; Rabbits (H), Storm (H), Cowboys (A), Sharks (A) and Parra (H)

Cowboys: Sharks (A), Tigers (A), Dogs (H) Raiders (H) and Warriors(A).

Seems NRL maybe having a discussion on an extra reserve for concussion.

https://www.newscon.net/en-au/posts/nrl-2021-australian-rugby-league-commission-chairman-peter-vlandys-denies-new-rules-causing-injuries-as-18th-man-change-to-be-examined/

Heard a stat where this would have come into play in only 2 of 1400 matches played under the current protocols.

Seems pointless window dressing for the media

Momorovski - FAIL to get charge downgraded. Suspended.
Mitchell - FAIL to get charge downgraded. Out for 4 weeks.

Radley - downgraded to a Grade 1. $1900 fine and no suspension.

Before the judiciary reform they need to make sure the $1 at one club equals $1 at another club.

Yes. If Souths can afford to re-sign Adam Reynolds to go with the massive pay packets of Lattrell Mitchell, Jai Arrow, Damien Cook, etc. then there should be an inquiry.

Souths have form with 3rd party payments and Greg Inglis and other players whereby they are allowed to get paid for advertising, and receive payments like new cars.

Noticed how Mitchell's face is everywhere? Does he get paid for that above and beyond the cap  ;)

I am not a Souths fan but some of the other players are not on great money especially some of the backs and props plus their reserves. In my calculations, Mitchell, Cook, Walker, Murray and Arrow will cost around $3.5m a year combined. Add to that Gagai, Johnston and Reynolds to that mix and you donít get much to spend on others.

Now the Roosters, they are a different story. You have the Morris brothers, Manu (best centre in the game in my humble opinion) Tupou, Keary, Creighton, Radley, JWH etc costing anywhere upto $5m including Teddy on a $1mcombined anywhere else but the Roosters. Then add Friend before his retirement and Cordner to the total and you wonder how many Roosters players are $200k or less. The $1 at Roosters is worth more than $1 anywhere else. Mind you Robinson is a great coach and players in the latter years want to win comps so you could get a discount but not up and comers at times.

Wonder what will happen with this. Consensual act and illegally filmed however is this act illegal in a public environment. Have no ideas these days as what is considered offensive depends on the judge.
