Post by: jfc on 2017-Jan-16, 01:52 PM
Seven's coverage seems to get worse by the minute.

Novak in a wheelchair, Shane Warne! Spare me!

And the Australian Open site fits in with the bad tone.

Neglecting to tell us we can watch any match we choose live on 7tennis.

Took me a while to learn that.

But at least I can now watch actual tennis that interests me.

I watched this match in its entirety. During the third and fourth sets I was trying to remember an Australian in any sport who was such  a disgrace to the "AUS" after his or her name. I still can't think of one to match this clown. Not only was he a disgrace to those initials but also to the Sport itself and not to mention he was belittling of his opponent. One of the other sad aspects of the match was the crowd support for him. Says a lot about them. And what about the insipid commentary ? Poor old Lleyton won't open his mouth and say what a disgrace this cove is because he wants him in the Davis Cup squad. Guess what Lleyton , we don't. Kitty got it right at the Olympics. We don't require these types.

Andreas Seppi

My nomination for Australian of the Year

As for Sam Stosur -- watching her play is like watching an opera
-- you know it's going to end in disaster but you hope and hope that it won't for once...

Anyone watching should consider the Chase The Ace promotion at William Hill.

$25 headvhead bet and you get a bonus for every Ace your player serves.

Bonuses range from 0.50c (86% chance) to $10 (1.0% chance) per Ace regardless if you win or lose the bet.

They bet around 106% on the head to head market so I think the bonus is more than enough to make every men's match +ev.

Probably have to be a bit more selective in the women's comp.

I had $25 on Rodger ans was lucky enough to spin the $10 and also got $5 on Mischa Zverev.   emthup

The locals seem to be getting carried away betting on Aussie Johanna @13.

All #9 Konta has to do, is beat something like:

#17 Wozniacki
#6 Cibulkova
#2 Serena
#3 Randwanska/#5 Pliskova
#1 Kerber/#7 Muguruza

Good luck with that!

I was testing out William Hill's promotion so I had $25 on Kyrgios at $1.08 and got 50 cents each ace he served, got $14 in bonus bets although I lost my$25, have since backed two other players, with reputation of serving aces, both have won, but each time I only got 50 cents per ace.

Just a marketing tool by William Hill, I doubt too may punters will get $10 per ace, unless player has no chance of winning their match.

Who did you pick that won and only served two aces? You're not betting on the women are you?

I've made $136 in bonuses today with 2 games still in progress.

My highest bonus today was $2 for Thiem, who's still playing and has 10 aces so far, but I've got $10 Federer, $5 Seppi and $5 Mischa Zverev alive for tomorrow.

This is actually a very good bonus.

This may help ..... sort the link by Ace%.

http://www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/leaders.cgi

In the women back Serena. I'd also back Karolina Pliskova and Garcia but lay them on betfair for a loss - hoping the aces will cover the loss at 50c per ace but having the chance to hit something bigger.

I'm just cranky I didn't bet on any of the first round matches which included Ivo Karlovic who is ranked 2nd in serves who hit 75 aces in his opening match.  :clap2:

With a 1% chance of getting a $10 bonus bet and 86% chance of getting a 50 cent for aces served , the spinning wheel used in their promotion would have the 1% ( $10 bonus) )for players at long odds to win their match, therefore you will probably lose your stake, whereas the 86 % (50 cent bonus)  is for players at long odds on, where you may win your bet but get little for their aces. The most desirable outcome is for a match to go for five sets, more aces will be served, and of course you win your bet.Having $30 on Murray @ $1.06 to win $17 in bonus bets ( 34 aces , and Murray is not noted for serving aces ) seems a bit like buying money.Of course all those bonus bets are conditional on their terms.
As somebody once said " there is no such thing as a free drink ".

Well I've spun one $10 - Federer tonight and two $5 M Zverev and Seppi today ...... all favourites.  I backed Serene next round and got $2.

I missed the first round matches (half the tournament) but I'm convinced if you bet in every men's match you'll end up a handsome winner.

I'll  post a summary after the tournament is over but I've got $262 bonuses in the kitty from yesterday and today so far.

No doubt the Williams sisters would have to be the greatest sibling champions in sporting history, I am aware two Russian brothers were world boxing champions, but for longevity and achievements the Williams sisters would have to be the best.
Don Bradman, Usain Bolt, Cassius Clay, Jack Nicklaus , Henry Armstrong, Rod Laver, Lester Piggott, Dawn Fraser have all been champions in their own sports , but if they had siblings I have never heard of them, although I have heard it said Dawn Fraser's brother  could not swim

I'll  post a summary after the tournament is over but I've got $262 bonuses in the kitty from yesterday and today so far.

I bet in 76 matches - 47 Mens & 29 Women - in 13 matches I laid the bet off for a small loss to get the server I wanted.

Overall I lost $23.54 on the match bets - winning $107.88 on the men and losing $131.42 on the women.

My players hit 768 Aces - 595 Men & 173 Women for a bonus return of $599.50 - $507.00 Men & $92.50 Women.

I lost overall on the Women but would more selective next time - regards the men I still think you can bet every game and finish well in front.

Of the 76 matches I got 1 @ $10 - 2 @ $5 - 3 @ $2 - 4 @ $1 and 66 @ 0.50cents - very close to the expected spread.

1. To make some easy money - I get the impression William Hill are interested in building turnover at the moment (possible sale??) and I'm happy presently to take advantage of all their bonus offers without fear of being terminated.

2. Not long. I got a list of players that stated their % of Aces served then basically put $25 on the favourite if their % was competitive with their opponent or backed and layed their opponent if the unfancied opponent had a far superior Ace %. Decision time each match = under 30 seconds. In the mens just backing the favourite would be highly profitable.  I became more selective in the Women's draw as it progressed - next time I'd restrict myself to the top 4 or 5 women ace servers.

3. Often yes, but not exclusively. I found myself visiting the Cold Chisel repertoire more often recently due to the use of Flame Trees in a safe driving ad during the matches and I habitually find myself gravitating back to the works of two of my favourite female artists, Amy Winehouse and Paloma Faith.

Stosur wins 9th WTA title.

Molik won 4, so I'd guess this millennium Stosur has won more than the rest of the nation.

As for the French, the Q1 favourite Kerber is $24 for the title, so it's hard to imagine an easier Quarter.

The wacky US Mens' draw was bad enough, but all the favourites to reach the no names Q3/Q4 Final keep falling.

Amazingly Shapovolov is 3rd fvourite on Betfair, hence implied favourite to be the no name to make the final.

Seems to be all the media rage right now, but apart from many other hurdles at only 6' he's a midget!

Anyone else Chasing the Aces again this year?

Some changes - you can only have 10 bets a day and the bonus range goes down to 10 points this year ie 25 cents.

This my third day of betting - at the moment I've had 27 completed matches - all mens matches.

Invest = $25*27 = $675 - overall I'm down $55 on the bets and have received  19,820 bonus points which equates to $495.50 in bonus bets.

Certainly a good way to create an interest in the Open and make a few dollars for virtually no effort.   emthup

How are you going Wenona?

I've left the women alone - they just don't hit enough aces  :/

As of last night :

70 matches bet (66 men 4 women)

Losses on Match betting : ($144.21) -loss of 8.24% on turnover -  I am arbing them now - effectively buying the bonus for between 0 - $2.50

Bonus Aces served : 1027

Bonus bets received : $880.25

Average bonus received per match : $12.58 - average bonus actually received per ace $0.86 (expected $0.772)

Average pts/per ace received on spins : 31.86 - expected is 30.88

Best match was Karlovic v Suigita - spun Karlovic 100 points ($2.50 per serve) - it was a 5 set marathon and Karlovic hit 53 Aces.  :clap2:

Promotion is basically free money for no risk and little effort.   emthup

Part of the reason is Dimitrov has been really struggling with his second service this week for some reason.

In the second round against M McDonald he only won 28% of his second serves. They were slow and landing mid court - McDonald (who's first round win was his only ever full atp tour win) was just walking in and smashing them. Dimitrov was able to survive being his second victim only by winning the 5th set 8-6 (after losing the 4th set 6-0)

He improved to 38% against Rublev in the third round but he'll need to lift that to 50%+ against far better players to go any further. He also served more double faults than aces in that match.

He looks far more likely to have his serve broken than Kyrgios at the moment.

An analysis of the match which concurs with some of Wenona's points.

I'm still happy to bet against Kyrgios as I detest him and don't buy his new goodie two shoes image.

Slightly more objectively I think that Dimitrov has been paying his dues for a few years and has finally peaked at #3. You'd think he believes he has a strong chance for the tournament and all his preparation has been leading up to the deep matches.

He credits his recent upturn to his new coach Vallverdu and that has to be a massive advantage against his kinda' uncoached opponent.

Here's a trap that caught me out tonight with the Chase The Ace.

Backed Cilic against Nadal in Chase the Ace - spun 100 points ie $2.50 per serve.

I layed Cilic on Betfair to essentially buy the Chase The Ace for a couple of dollars.

Nadal retires hurt and Cilic hits 20 aces at that point.

I get paid my 2000 points but William Hill has this rule :

If  a  match  is awarded  to  a  player  as  a  result  of  the  disqualification  or  incapacity  of  an  opponent,  all  single
wagers placed on the Match Winner, Sets Betting, Correct Sets Order and Games Handicap are void. Affected
multiples will be recalculated excluding that leg

Betfair have no such rule - so I get my William Hill bet refunded and lose the lay on Betfair - Cilic wins and hits 20 aces but I'm out $85 less the Ace points on the match.  :tears:

Boris Becker claims diplomatic immunity from bankruptcy
Tennis champion cites his role as Central African Republic’s cultural attache in high court
Three-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker is using his role as an ambassador for the Central African Republic to claim diplomatic immunity from ongoing bankruptcy proceedings in the UK.
Lawyers for the former tennis star lodged a claim in the high court in London on Thursday asserting immunity against attempts to enforce bankruptcy proceedings against Becker, which his creditors have applied to extend, citing his role as the Central African Republic’s attache to the European Union on sporting, cultural and humanitarian affairs, which he started in April this year.
The position is covered by the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which means Becker cannot be made subject to any legal process without the consent of the Central African Republic and the foreign secretary, Boris Johnson, according to his lawyers.
Becker was declared bankrupt in June 2017 over an undisclosed amount of money owed to private bankers Arbuthnot Latham & Co, which a court ruled he was not able to pay.
After his lawyers submitted the application, Becker said: “The decision to commence bankruptcy proceedings against me was both unjustified and unjust. A bunch of anonymous and unaccountable bankers and bureaucrats pushed me into a completely unnecessary declaration of bankruptcy, which has inflicted a whole heap of damage on me, both commercially and professionally, and on those close to me.
“I have now asserted diplomatic immunity as I am in fact bound to do, in order to bring this farce to an end, so that I can start to rebuild my life. Once this gravy train for the suits has been stopped in its tracks, my lawyers will turn to the question of compensation. I will be coming after the people who forced this process through to hold them publicly accountable for their actions.”
Arbuthnot Latham & Co declined to immediately comment on Becker’s statement.
Becker will reportedly have his own office in the Brussels embassy of the Central African Republic as part of the role as sports attache.
He has employed Ben Emmerson QC, who has previously represented Julian Assange and Marina Litvinenko, to fight his bankruptcy case.
He continued: “I should add that I am immensely proud of my appointment as the sports and culture attache for the Central African Republic. Sport is incredibly important in Africa and is fast becoming a universal language, a form of social diplomacy and a leveller between people from vastly different and unequal social backgrounds around the world.
“My diplomatic role in the Central African Republic allows me to give something meaningful back to sports supporters in one of the poorest parts of the world. There is no reason why a role of this kind should be treated any differently to an appointment as a military or a trade attache, which everyone recognises as attracting diplomatic immunity.”

July.  Didn't see the match but I'd like to buy that little Jap guy a drink.

"Jap" being short for Japanese just like "Aussie" is short for "Australian."

I don't know which of these two complete cretins I enjoyed being ousted more.

I'm hoping they team up for the doubles and get smashed in that too.

Actually the use of jap is not like aussie. Many Japanese find the expression offensive. Do you call Germans krauts openly?
Title: Tennis 2018
Post by: firezuki on 2018-Jul-11, 01:28 AM
In what way is Jap not like Aussie?  They are both abbreviations of the full name.

I don't think "kraut" is short for German.  It just doesn't look right.

They are both abbreviations but with a difference

"Aussie" is in a way an affectionate term.

"Jap" is a derogatory term.

And our imbecile who prides himself on never researching anything himself blunders in spades again.

Jap is regarded as an ethnic slur.

Both Serb and Croat are the correct term for those people - and not nicknames.

They are simply shortened versions of the whole name.  Like, I don't know  .....   Jap.

What about Malays or Scots?

There is no difference in meaning between offence and offense. They're exactly the same in all their definitions. The difference is that offense is the preferred spelling in American English, while offence is preferred in British, Indian, Canadian, and Australian English.

Rather than defending the punctuation policeman perp who flunked Australian English, wouldn't humanity be better served by chastising the very same perp for his persistent use of racist slurs!

And it's interesting to see where your priorities lie.

I'm against censorship, but when it comes to dealing with the scumbag in question, seems to me  encouraging, defending or otherwise supporting him through his incessant offences is not a way to raise the quality of this waning joint.
