With the greatest respect I suggest you both don’t know the circumstances behind the decision

Is this due to what happened with Burgess and Inglis or something else.

There are not many quality half backs around. Cleary is the leader and then you have DCE, Moses, Hughes and Reynolds. The rest are either inconsistent or learning their trade. Keary, Townsend, Hunt and Hastings are good halves but need more consistency in my opinion.

Some of the sides with good halves don’t have good cattle while Souths have some great cattle around especially in their spine. If they had Reynolds for the next two years, it would have continued their premiership window. Ilias is a good young kid but at times he looks like a deer in headlights. He will improve over time but is he capable of a premiership with Walker? Time will tell.

There’s a thing called a salary cap.
Reynolds was negotiating back in 2020. Start of 2021 he was still contracted and offered 2022 as an extension  with the hope of finding “something” for 23.

He didn’t want that. He chose to leave despite being offered the deal. There are rumours as to why he was desperate for the money & security of that extra year.

In order to keep him we would have had to cut players. Salary caps, for the uninitiated, are wired in some 2!3 & 4 years  in advance.

We had Murray, our captain, off contract and getting huge offers. Others the same or getting extended
Ditto Walker
Ditto Gagai
Ditto KoalamatangI
Ditto Campbell Graham
Ditto Latrell
Ditto Cook
Ditto Burgess
Then a crop of young blokes coming through. Ilias & taaffe were already getting offers. Add Mamazou.o & moale who have also played some first grade.

None of that should have been sacrificed for an ageing  Reynolds.
Should we have simply waited till 2023-24 and then gone looking for a new halfback when he was finished after losing the likes of ilias & taaffe? To suggest so is dumb.

Reyno was always going to be a loss. It happens. We’ll be fine without him into the future

Wily, one of my friends and myself have constant debates about footy.

The crux of the matter is that would you rather win one premiership every decade and languish for majority of the decade or would you rather play in semis every year with no premierships for all the decade?

I always chose a premiership and he always chooses semis. He is a dogs fan.

What would be your pick Wily?

Jeunes,

How to put this politely...

I'd rather root the cheer leader than repeatedly watch two others fight for the right....

eg Tom Brady

Does not answer the question Fours. Brady is an exception.

Would I rather be a Giants or Dallas Fan in last 25 years? 2 Super Bowls to the Giants and Dallas has made many playoffs.

Would I rather be a Knights or Eels fan in last 25 years? 2 premierships ((1 ARL)  to none but Parra has made GFs and semis.

That is the question.

My attitude has certainly changed since we won in 2014. 42 years in the waiting I got what I wanted .. Now.  I just love we’ve been in the hunt most years since.
Ironically the bloke most are sobbing over has been one reason why we haven’t won again.

By seasons end,we’ll  Be fine aand certainly the next few years. Not possible if we retained Adam

Moronic still stands as the call. For who's ever managing the cap.

Yes’ it was “far from a silly decision” , it was a stupid  :censored: ing decision.

He was not a nippy little half who was likely to lose his speed at the ripe old age of 31. He is a General who steers his troops around the field and puts up inch-perfect up-and-unders. His age of 31 should not have featured in the decision.

As I predicated ages ago we aren’t competitive this year.  :tears: :tears: :tears:
,

It required someone who doesn't just read rule books to make the decision to keep him.

Yes. He would be out for some games because of injury. But his worth far outweighs the negatives.

Cooper Cronk steered the Roosters around with one arm to win a GF and I would think that Reynolds is the equal of Cronk. He is one of the best kickers I have seen play the game.

He would have earned far more money in the NFL (American football) and some of those clubs had some real problems with their kickers last season. I'm surprised he wasn't asked to trial or something.

The Rabbitohs' chances of turning around their form were dealt a heavy blow on Tuesday with news that Cameron Murray will likely miss much of the rest of the season with a neck injury.

Horrible set back but the positive is the draw, he won’t play origin and he needed a rest. The club knew he needed time off. Not ideal with all the other injuries but probably the best time

Watching Reynolds last night again highlights what a quality half does to the team dynamics. Reynolds along with Hynes and Townsend seem to be the buys of the year. Even Burton showed at times what a quality half he is and in any other team, he will be winning games more regularly.

That is why I think Souths will struggle against the top sides until the latter part of the year when Ilias gets that experience between his head. Until then, Souths are going to find it tough but they do have an easier draw for next 4-6 weeks so they should win them.

Mitchell’s injury seems worse than first thought as he is supposed to be out till round 15 and Murray out till round 13 at the earliest.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen him play a better game. Or one that he was so instrumental in his team’s win.

So much for those doubts that our head serangs had about him being too old for that three year contract extension.

One minute before half time at 26-0 we are looking at a significant % booster.

One minute before full time 32-30 we are looking to scramble home.

Souths are playing in Dubbo tonight so they have named the first race at Dubbo today:

SOUTHS SYDNEY RABBITOHS VS CANBERRA RAIDERS MAIDEN PLATE

on both Racing NSW and TAB.

The person who is empowered to give the races their names probably comes from Victoria and calls the game "Rugby"  :nowink:

...and they have doubled down in the 2nd and 4th races.

SOUTHS SYDNEY RABBITOHS MEMBERS MAIDEN PLATE
SOUTHS SYDNEY RABBITOHS SILVER GOBLET PREVIEW - 2YO HANDICAP

I was looking for an omen tip and the one that comes closest is probably R2 #9 Wodger, which is how most Souths supporters pronounce the name Roger when they don't have their teeth in.

Tomorrow not today.

More like a mistake of grammar than a football code error imho.
