From Racenet back in August:

Rookie trainer wins with first starter

Sydney’s newest trainer Annabel Neasham wasted no putting a bridle on her first winner when Commanding Missile gave her success with her first runner in the Segenhoe CG&E Maiden Handicap (1100m) at Scone on Tuesday.

Two weeks into her new venture, Neasham and the former Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace-trained Commanding Missile overcame an impeded path to land some good bets after being backed from $3 plus into $2.30.

Commanding Missile’s jockey Brodie Loy was behind a wall of horses in the early part of the straight before angling out and picking off runs as they presented.

The first starter quickly strode to the front but in the latter stages gave supporters reason for some concern when shying as he approached the winning post.

“That was pretty good,” Neasham told Sky Racing.

“Good ride from Brodie.

“He looked like he was a bit slow away but it probably suited him. He had time to balance up and it’s good to get the monkey off the back.”

Having arrived in Australia from the UK four years ago, Neasham began with Gai Waterhouse before joining the Ciaron Maher team in 2018.

After playing a major role in Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace’s Sydney success during the autumn, Neasham recently announced she was branching out on her own with her former head trainer’s blessing.

“Ciaron is right behind me and has been very supportive,” she said last month. “He’s been a great boss and mentor, and I couldn’t have got to this point without him.”
