1. Doubt it - John Morish spelt his name with one "r"  not two.
2. No - Scott Singleton.
3. Yes - son of Frank.

The honeymoon is over for Rogerson/Freedman with the pair calling stop to their venture that has been less than successful,I couldn't see it working as they are both arrogant p****s,Rogerson to keep the Sydney stables but Freedman hightailing it back to Mornington.

Singo has transferred his promising horse Later Gator from Gai Waterhouse to Peter Moody after it won a recent barrier trial, well Peter trains in Vic and Nsw nowadays so he has a good look at both states.

The Greg Hickman trained Uncle Phil resumes from a spell today at Nowra but a recent trial wouldn't get you excited to put money on him,he is well bred but disappointing I notice he has blinkers today so don't know if that is normal for him. :chin:

The Peter Snowden trained Guelph looks a good thing today but rumour has it David Hayes is hoping for Blue Palace to finalise a start for the BD today in same race,I'm hoping Mick Kent trained Godiva Rock is in the top three but I wont jinx it by backing her. :shy:

Fair Work Ombudsman to audit up to 90 horse racing trainers

APN Newsdesk |
6th Mar 2013 6:30 PM

Horse racing trainers in Toowoomba, Mackay and on the north coast of New South Wales will face an audit by the Fair Work Ombudsman in the next three months.

The FWO will audit up to 90 horse racing trainers to ensure they were paying employees their full entitlements under the Fair Work Act.

About 30 trainers in each of Queensland, NSW and Victoria will be audited, especially in the coastal regions and capital cities, as well as the Toowoomba and Hunter Valley regions.

Inspectors will check that trainers are paying workers in-line with minimum wage and penalty rates and complying with record-keeping and pay slip obligations.

There will be a focus on ensuring stable hands and strappers are being paid correctly.

Fair Work Ombudsman, Nicholas Wilson, said the industry was chosen after employees had made dozens of complaints in the past two years, mostly by stable hands.

"Where audits reveal contraventions, the preference of Fair Work Inspectors will be to assist employers to voluntarily rectify their issues and put processes in place to ensure future compliance," Mr Wilson said.

Employers will be told about resources available to help them comply with their obligations.

"This campaign is an ideal opportunity for employers in the horse racing industry to ensure they understand their obligations under workplace laws and are paying their stable hands correctly," Mr Wilson said.

"If small errors in wages and entitlements are left unchecked they can mount up and become significant back-payments of thousands of dollars.

"This is why it's important that employers ensure they get it right the first time around."

Workers and employers seeking advice should go to: fairwork.gov.au or call the Fair Work Infoline on 13 13 94.

I expect the majority of leading trainers would have office administration under control.......no excuses for paying unders if they are found out...maybe the smaller trainers might struggle keeping time and wages books....maybe cash in the hand with some.

Awards for stable employees is a relatively recent development.....recent being within the past 20 years .....in the old days it would be catch and kill yer own...with slings if the punt came off.

AWU probably has coverage and you would think their organisers would be on the job checking for compliance without the ombudsman having to do it.

Cherry picking Toowoomba and Mackay as the target seems pretty strange...no big stables in those areas as far as I know...get to EF and Hendra and the two Coasts ..would be a better use of resources IMO.

The award wages such as they are wouldn't have strappers living the high life....no silvertails there.

Why would they only focus on big stables  surely if someone is dudding the system it matters not the size of the stable.

Vadim..Thanks there was a truck go past my house at the time Hoss was speaking and I heard 40 stables and Brissy mentioned but got a bit excited and hoped it was 40 in Brissy but better money in Sydney makes sense. :)

In the news today the great man Bart Cummings is joining his Grandson James for the 2013/14 season, had to come on the good work James did while Bart had health problems and the lad speaks well to the media completely different to grandad who is very quiet and gruff to the media most of the time but can't blame him with some who shove a mike into his face.

A very good day on the punt yesterday following M C Kent three winers 1 second 1 third,Jamie Bayliss had a winner and a last for Mick.

After we sold Liberty's Choice dam to wind up our syndicate she was kept in work and trained by David Payne who I met and spent time with him when he bought her to Brissy for the carnival for her new owners,I took an instant like of the gentleman and found out last night one reason why I liked him,the team from OTR asked a few trainers in Sydney if they became PM on Saturday what policy would they put up straight away,Gerald Ryan didn't have a policy only he would buy lots of yearlings but when asked David Payne said he would look after Aussie pensioners before refugees. :thumbsup:David well spoken.

Allegations of sexual misconduct and underpaying stable staff in Victoria another stain on the tablecloth. :o

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/superracing/industry-rejects-claims-of-entrenched-misconduct-in-racing-stables/story-fnii0owg-1226722333667

I missed seeing Tuesday night's story sexual exploitation underpayment of wages award breaches Rick Hore Lacy gets a mention ..he was fined $5K for misconduct the girl Jane not her real name but appears in person to tell her story was injured teaching herself to ride no WC which you would think would be available seeing her injury was connected with her employment ....Cummings family father and son also alleged to have been involved in employing illegals and not paying them correctly.....Anthony when interviewed claims the ATA advised no obligation to pay overtime if the employee is too slow.....that's rubbish. :o

http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/42467

Maurice Blackburn " considering" something  an AWU organiser interviewed listing the dangerous nature of the job but no indication that the union has any plans to bring about change for the benefit of employees..my guess is there aren't enough members.

With the stories circulating that O'shea will take the Darley team over I would think I believe Henry Plumptre that they were interviewing a selection of Australian trainers but were leaning more to an in house to take over,I think more Aussie trainers will be given horses like Walter,Waterhouse and Freedman to train my thinking is perhaps McEvoy and O'shea could get some babies and in Victoria I would like Kent and Hayes to get some. :chin:

I thought there was a dedicated thread to the Paul Beshara incident.

VCAT have reduced the penalty to allow him back in April.

There is a inherent problem within our game when people (commissions) get involved in making vital decisions of this nature whilst not understanding the repercussions to the Industry.

Another shocker form Victoria.

It seems my information was wrong and he did not have the suspension reduced. We might finally be getting through to these Authorities.
