Blinkers will help Come Hither: Freedman

IN A bid to break the stranglehold of the two outstanding co-favorites for Saturday's $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes, trainer Lee Freedman will use blinkers on his filly, Come Hither.
Rostova and Regal Saga dominate Victoria's most important two-year-olds' event, in which only 11 runners are expected to line up. But Freedman, who has won three Blue Diamonds, yesterday maintained that blinkers would assist Come Hither, a winner of two of her three races.
"I just feel that she's just needed something to help her concentration - and I think blinkers will do that," he said. "She's a very good filly, but she's going to want to be this year as the two favourites appear to be standouts.
"Every horse in every race is beatable, but in reality it's hard not seeing one of the two proving successful."
Come Hither impressed when she trialled in blinkers at Balnarring last week, and top jockey Kerrin McEvoy will be aboard on Saturday.
Bookmakers have Rostova and Regal Saga equal favourites as a result of their excellent performances in the Blue Diamond Preludes at Caulfield last Sunday week. Of the other runners, the Peter Moody-trained Reward For Effort will be ridden by Luke Nolen, and David Hayes's filly Irish Lights will have Craig Williams on board.
Hayes may also start Bawaardi, with the colt to be ridden by Brad Rawiller.
South Australian filly Rose Darmore is a confirmed starter, and her jockey, Dwayne Dunn, will be striving for his fifth win in the race.
Regular jockey Clare Lindop will remain in Adelaide next Saturday to ride last year's Magic Millions winner Augusta Proud in the weight-for-age Redelva Stakes at Morphettville.
Trainer Mick Price has also signalled he will start his impeccably bred filly Corsaire on Saturday despite being clearly beaten by Rostova at their first meeting at Caulfield last Sunday week.
Corsaire was backed for a fortune late in betting but Rostova accounted for the youngster quickly over the final part of the race.
