I like Ciaron Maher but what ever he is trying to achieve with Kaching it has me stuffed.

He obviously has an opinion of the horse to be bringing him back to stakes races.  It's the pressure of the calendar I think - the rush to get these colts into the Australian Guineas.  That is what he is trying to achieve.

(I am only to regret this) If Kaching was a gelding I doubt they be quite as pressed to push the horse for the sake of a Guineas berth.

There is no doubt too many good colts are being aimed at unsuitable "stallion making" races. We saw it with Kermadec and we are seeing it with Palentino.

Yes, but am struggling for a reason not to support Kaching on Saturday.

I liked his relatively quiet run at Sandown.  He's well drawn and has a good lad aboard, the price is nice... you might have found the winner on the backhand.

The 3yo Races, and in particular the set weight 3yo races, are very good races to put that extra form guide study into IMO.

Really liked the first up run of Morton's Fork in the Manfred but he may need the mile before we see the best of him. Was made to stop/start several times and looked to my untrained eye to have a bit of upside in fitness.

Out of the Manfred,

https://www.racing.com/form/2017-02-04/caulfield/race/7/results

the following 7 horses back up under the same weight conditions (winner Legless Veuve and 2nd Into Orbit not running)

3rd Hey Doc - excellent run. Along with Morton's Fork was impressive finishing hard. He was 3rd in the G1 Caulfield Guineas.
5th Morton's Fork - see above. He won the G2 Sandown Guineas last spring.
6th Wazzenme - like MF was first up and not much between the two. He was very consistent in G2/G3 grade last spring beaten between 0.6 and 1.75 L in 4 consecutive starts.
7th Manalo Blahnique - his highest rated runs last season were over 1200m and included a 6th in the G1 Coolmore beaten 3.45L behind the highly rated Flying Artie
8th Inside Agent - won at listed level over 1400m in his forst campaign. Was well back all the way. Bowman to ride.
9th Trenchant - won the Gibson Carmichael as a 2yo. 3 ruins last tile improved each time but looks a stayer.
10th Ballet Master - wide up front early dropped right out. BM64 horse who is not up to this class and will only interfere with those who have a genuine hope.

In general, the first 4 over the line were the first four at the post.

Other horses:

Seaburge - one of the best 3yos who is first up. Ran 2nd in the G1 Caulfield Guineas, failed in the Cantala then 2nd in the G1 Emirates McKinnon against the older horses. VRC Sires winner beating Detective over the course and distance 3rd up as a 2yo. Last time 2nd up was 5th to Detective over the course and distance.

Throssel - first up and was in the same race 2nd up as Seaburge last time in and responsible for one of the best runs in the race. First up last time was 3rd at listed level over 1200m at MV.

Interesting both horses going to 1400m first up this time and a good fresh run from either would see them a winning chance.

Silvera - strong SA form but failed to bring that over as a 3yo. 5.6 lengths behind Sacred Elixer being best run at G2 level.

Snitzson is a BM70 winner who ran a nice race in the G2 Autumn Stks first up after being slow away. Only beaten 3.45. Didn't think the rider rode him out. Zahra replaced by Oliver.

Land Of Plenty - ran a nice race first up in an Inglis Dash race. Last campaign was 2nd to Hey Doc in the G2 Stutt Stks (Kaching 3rd)

https://www.racing.com/form/2016-09-30/moonee-valley/race/5/results

Kaching - should have finished much closer in a BM64 at Sandown first up

https://www.racing.com/form/2017-02-08/ladbrokes-park-lakeside/race/4/results

3rd in the G2 Stutt Stks (see above)

Malaise - first up from Godolphin has not got the runs on the board to be considered. BM78 horse.

Hardham - beaten 3.65 in a G2 down the straight best rated run. Placed at G3 first up last time in. The gate is a horror for a horse that likes to be midfield. Can race on the speed.

Yulong Shengdao - not considering here.

Summary.

Little speed on in the race.

Hey Doc is rated on top due the fact he will be either in the lead or sitting off something in a slowly run race from 4.

Morton's Fork from 2 will be close to Hey Doc. Going on the Stutt Stks, Land Of Plenty and Kaching given chances. Classy horses Seaburge and Throssel capable of good runs. Might play around with some first fours here with Hey Doc as a standout and roving banker.
