Once again we had to endure all of Jason Richardson's after race cheesiness while Payroll was only 300 metres away standing on three legs after the last at Flemington.......not a mention.
RIP Payroll.....the lovely big thoroughbred mare that you were.
It was probably your size and galloping action that ultimately brought about your undoing especially on Saturday's hard ground.
Liam O'Keeffe, the Flemington track manager, was describing the difficult part of his job this time of year is knowing how much water to put on the track because of the colder nights. Liam seemed to be very concerned he didn't overdo it.
Rest assured Liam you didn't overdo it because the track was firm at the start of the day.
The steward's report again was a bit of a sorry tale but it is typical of Flemington raceday when the track is too hard.
Long time before we see the 2 Mel Cup winners that raced in the Australian Cup again, I'd say.
