VACCINE U-TURN
ASTRA LA VISTA Coronavirus jab paused for under-50s

MADURA McCORMACK

AUSTRALIA’S plan to vaccinate everyone against COVID-19 by October is in disarray with people under 50 now being advised not to get the AstraZeneca jab after experts deemed the risk of blood clots too high.

In a snap press conference last night, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the chief medical officer announced the advisory group on immunisation had decided the Pfizer vaccine was now preferred over AstraZeneca in adults under 50 who have not already received a first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine.

“This is based both on the increased risk of complications from COVID-19 with increasing age, and thus increased benefit of the vaccination, and the potentially lower, but not zero risk, of this rare event with increasing age,” CMO Paul Kelly said.

Why is it "unsafe" for under 50's but OK for those 51 and older

Are our health experts up to it or are they sheep following the overseas ones. :what:

Arsenel,

They have no chouce but to follow the international data as we have insufficient cases numbers here for valid data analysis conclusions.

‘No evidence’ Pfizer jab linked to death

MADURA McCORMACK

THERE is no evidence to show the death of an elderly woman at a Logan aged care home can be linked to the coronavirus jab she received just hours before, Australia’s top health officer has said.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk yesterday called on health investigators to “look very closely” at the woman’s death to ascertain the cause.

“I think they need to look very closely at, were there any other conditions or was it vaccine related?” she said.

The 83-year-old, who was living at the Yurana aged care facility in Springwood, died four hours after receiving a dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

But Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly said 1000 agedcare residents died each week and it was “inevitable” that some would include those who had been recently vaccinated. The death will continue to be investigated by health authorities.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt, alongside the Prime Minister and top health officials, moved to sandbag Australians’ confidence in the coronavirus vaccine program yesterday after revelations the UK would stop giving the AstraZeneca jab to people under 30 after a “plausible link” was found in extremely rare cases of blood clots.

Before last night’s press conference, in which over-50s were advised not to have the AstraZeneca vaccine, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation and the Therapeutic Goods Administration were due to brief the Prime Minister.

More details expected today after national cabinet.

ENDS

Dr Kelly's response doesn't address the issue he says "there's no evidence " before even looking into this case ...there needs to be a proper investigation as to the cause of this unfortunate lady's death....not some flippant stats from this supposed expert.

I thought it was under 50's, which begs the question why is it OK for those over that age group.

Westie,

Simply because they are more likely to die from Covid so the relative risk is higher.

People need to keep things in proportion as we are talking about chances of walking across the road and getting killed or swimming at the beach and getting taken by a shark sort of probabilities....
