The ABC were making a story and held onto it too long. I am not defending them on that. So if you are critical of ABC for timeframe that means you are equally critical of Vílandys and co for not even realising this was going on for years if not decades. They also did not even send people down to the Camden sales even after notified. So in your fairness, you must be very critical of Racing NSW and their incompetence in not discovering earlier. You are a fair person arenít you Gin?

The fact that in the defamation case it came out that Racing NSW still had a media release at the time of the trial on their website denying any NSW horses were in the abattoir even when it was proven it was incorrect shows the level of incompetence or denial. Did anyone lose their jobs in Racing NSW over this or lack of oversight? I doubt it but it was enough for Vílandys to start a defamation case without even watching the show.  Who paid for it?  We may never know.

Not defending them / him Jeunes. I'm on record at the time of the NSW greyhound ban where V'landy's was seen at a breeders meeting boosting that he knew what the outcome was going to be and that the horses could captilise on it. I handed back my ATC membership over his comments, when rung as to why I told them it was 100% over PV 'stuff you jack, I'm ok' message at the time. At a time when racing should have been working together, clearly PV was dancing on the grave of greyhounds.

I know my little $500 odd wasn't going to matter but I felt better for it.

My message was clear, this will knock on down the line, at least the greyhounds had a register from birth to death, the horses were light years behind.

Give it up Gintara.....broken record!....boring as!

One could say the same about you, your fixated hate of all things RNSW & PV is a broken record ..... boring as!  ;)

Your comments show you're obviously ok that more horses were put in harms way whilst the ABC held onto a story for maximum impact - your obsession has seen you lose sight that it should be about the horses

What on earth does "harm's way" mean?

Can you at least answer that question?.....you seemed to have skipped the last couple of questions I asked.

Two ticks

Police forces, globally, frequently let crime proceed while they gather evidence --- and picking a time to get a proper response is sensible.

Man up Gintara and take the questions.

Once the ABC obtained footage ......who should they have taken it to????
How are the ABC in anyway responsible for thoroughbreds standing in the killing chute at a non compliant abattoir.
Now explain "harm's way".....for the 2nd time???....please?

Why don't you admit?.....once again......you didn't watch the program, you resent the ABC and detest the reporter.
No sensible person would comment on a program they haven't watched......if you want to continue looking a complete goose....go right ahead!

It seems that Vílandys is now getting RL players under the collar with the crackdown on high tackles.

Vílandys showed last year what a good administrator he was when he pushed NRL on the road to Covid19 recovery by pushing for a restart when others declined. His example was copied by other sports as a result. Vílandys also led the way with in Racing with the Everest, Eagle, Provincial and Country Championships etc. The rest of the racing bodies now pay catch up in many ways.

However as recent events like the ABC expose on horse racing. shows that Vílandys also does not like to be exposed to ridicule or being potrayed as a bad person. Now unlike the racing media or partisans, some of the NRL players are openly challenging him as well as commentators. VíLandys quite rightfully wanted head highs stamped out but the transition is now being questioned.

Letís see how he copes with the pressure as most past NRL CEOs and Chairmanís usually realise running the NRL is not conducive to a healthy life.

RNSW answers a lingering question.

A story  in the SMH sourced from RNSW has clear implications for 'who carries the costs can?'

ďWe are backing Peter 100 per cent in this defamation action because he was on this ABC show as part of his duties as chief executive of the NSW racing industry,Ē

Should be no surprise to anyone just where the funding of this nonsense was coming from....the next question is "what fund"?
Please do not let it be the racehorse welfare fund.....please!
The silliest line re the appeal statement is "being prepared to answer the concerns about horse welfare"

Do they not realise that the "form guide" actually tells a lot more than just form. :what:

Their horse farm on the Manning river had 5.6 metres of water go across it in the recent floods.....a house was floating down the river!.
I could not find one report about the horses on that farm.....and I was looking!
The only news I saw from Oxley Island was the devastated dairy farmer who lost most of his herd.
6 weeks after the event they post a happy horse snap on twitter  :what: emthdown
What are the numbers from their "farms"?

It's all adds up to be very sad for the thoroughbred.

Great Player v. Great Architcts

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/racing/racing-icon-returns-to-national-chair-in-an-effort-to-settle-hostility-20210531-p57wn2.html

............... back the player

Any sense of a national consensus, about the proper conduct of racing in Australia, would back RNSW against an RVL that has run-off with the pixies.

........ locally, PVL is showing signs of being spread too thin

While legal outcomes aren't always predictable the possibility of a successful appeal IMO is remote after reading the decision it's going to be very difficult or impossible to find any errors in law in the decision.... so should an appeal be lodged the ABC would be acting within it's rights to seek  to have V'Landys  put up security for costs..... so has he got bottomless pockets??..... there is an existing costs order to discharge... while Racing NSW may have some sympathy for the predicament their CEO finds hisself in ...... he brought it on hisself as an individual aggrieved at the 4Corners program even though he had not seen it.....not a very astute basis on which to launch defamation......  Racing NSW would have the funds but would it be appropriate for them to dip into their cash reserves is a question that has to be asked ....my guess is it's none of their business.

Giddy Up

Well the answer is RNSW is paying the bill on the basis that PV'L was in his role as CEO of RNSW defending the industry on the ABC program............... but in the light of the learned judge's comments RNSW should have done what V'landy's should have done in the first place and ignored the comments...that's being realistic but only my opinion...............we'll have to wait and see what errors in law if any the RNSW legal team can find in the judgment ...and if anything is significant enough to reverse the decision ......and if not a secondary costs order which will be a significant cost to RNSW ..plus any more hurt and pain to be endured by the applicant..

The Porter precedent should be respected

..... a mediation process here would allow expressions of 'regret' about the way that the 7.30-Report story unfolded unfortunately exposed the stake hammered in the ground, in the wrong spot, at the outset.

Who expects the 'appeal' to proceed now that RNSW has accepted the 'award' of costs?

[........... the media, globally, play a game of 'seduction and betrayal' ........ consent is obtained before they get a shot away]

Thanks for bringing the legal side here Arsenal....tend to forget that.
I think he should be grateful to the judge for being a bit  "kind" to him.

No betrayal at all Peter....I think V'Landys was buoyed by his performance in the 4 Corners' interview with Michael Brissenden a couple of years earlier.....he seemed to mock him when the question re tongue ties.....thought he might get away with it again!
Couldn't  handle being made to look a bit inadequate on national TV by the girl.
Absolutely no "regret" or apology required .

Good luck with the rugby league boys then P V'Landys....they play the game a bit different.
They run into brick walls for a living!

I donít get it. Who in the Racing NSW Board agreed to back Vílandys and the cost of the defamation? With Ben Roberts, he was loaned the money by the Stokes group if reports are right.

So if Vílandys decided to appeal, who in Racing NSW will allow it to be funded from the organisation again. If they lose again, the cost could be overall in the millions. Thatís a huge gamble to take either way.

........... GOTTA BE DREAMIN

No one at Racing NSW Ė including the man himself Ė are talking but I am reliably informed a massive offer that would have taken him around the world to every major sporting event was tabled just prior to the autumn carnival.

Richie, the author of that piece was pressed for more info on twitter.
The man most famous for orchestrating horse sales to Hong Kong, replied his sources were 20 phone texts. :what:

I don't have any sources but I did see a mobile Hot Dog and Meat Pie company advertising for vendors recently.
They wanted to expand their brand internationally......could be that, I suppose.

Any word on the appeal yet??

By my humble calculations, if the ABC defamation costs against Porter was $650k before mediation, then it will be a similar amount for the ABC too with this case. However as Porter was more in the public limelight, ABC could have spent more than with Vílandys.

I am gathering that the appeal will be similar costs but could be more due to the extra scrutiny of the testimonies, rulings etc as this is the final chick at the stumps.

Thus ABC costs could be around $1.25-$1.5m for the case and appeal. VíLandys will have a similar amount. So if vílandys loses, it could be around anywhere from $2.5m upwards in costs for him.

Shame P V'Landys wasn't a bit humble Jeunes.....wouldn't have even started this massive waste of money.
This case will no doubt be used as an example for future law students......this is how easy it is to make bucket loads of money.

His legal man, B McClintock is well and truly tied up with the Ben Roberts thing at the moment.....10 weeks I believe.
If RNSW  weren't satisfied with their last legal voice, I can only recommend "Ironside".....I don't remember him ever losing a case!
From memory he might only be a fictional TV character ......."Tommy from Campbelltown" has legal qualifications, I believe.
That's about all the help I can offer!
